This is an Arduino shield version of the highly popular ESP8266 WiFi module, integrated directly onto the board.
The ESP8266 module can be used in IoT applications and to add WiFi connectivity to your projects.
The onboard ESP8266 chip comes preloaded with firmware that supports the AT command set, allowing you to easily communicate with the module via the Arduino’s UART interface and access all of the ESP8266’s input/output pins. All GPIO pins of the module are broken out to the shield headers for external use. Additionally, if you want to upload different firmware, you can directly access the ESP8266’s UART using the FTDI-compatible connector on the shield.
The board is shipped unsoldered, and the required header pins to connect it to your Arduino must be purchased separately.
