The MQ-4 methane gas sensor detects the presence of methane (CNG) in a range suitable for gas leak detection (300 ppm to 10,000 ppm). Like other MQ sensors, it provides an analog voltage output proportional to the gas concentration. Its detection range is ideal for identifying methane gas leaks.
By applying 5V to the H pins, the sensor heats up sufficiently, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements. Applying 5V to the A or B pins allows the sensor to output analog voltage through its other pins. The sensor’s sensitivity can be adjusted by the resistor value connected between the sensor output pin and ground, which may vary depending on your application. Calculations and guidelines are provided in the datasheet. A typical starting value is 20 kΩ.
